Meet the Requirements
Become a Real Estate Professional in Ontario
The OREA Real Estate College offers courses you will require to become eligible to make application for registration as a salesperson or broker with the Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO), the profession's regulatory body.
The College also offers a complete program of continuing education courses that will build on your knowledge and skills, and meet the mandatory continuing education requirements of the Real Estate and Business Brokers Act, 2002.

The Program begins with the *Pre-registration Segment* which includes 5 courses that must be completed within 18 months of the start dates of the first course.
Following the completion of the Pre-registration Segment, students have up to 12 months to obtain employment with a brokerage to obtain Registration with RECO.
The final part of the Program is the Articling Segment, a mandatory 24 month period following registration as a salesperson.

COURSE 1 : Real Estate as a Professional Career

COURSE 2: Land Structures and Real Estate Trading

- 60 Hours of Classroom Instruction

- Municipal planning and land use regulations
- Key elements in the construction of homes and buildings
- Process of determining the value of a property
- Process of trading in real estate
- Appropriate legislation related to the trading process (REBBA 2002)

COURSE 3: The Real Estate Transaction - General + Residential
Fee (General): $425

- An overview of the real estate transaction, from listing agreement through the final sale
Study Method: 40 Hours of Classroom Instruction
- As an alternative, the course can also enroll in a combined 80 hour classroom session of The Real Estate Transaction - General and The Residential Real Estate Transaction
- This course provides a detailed overview of residential real estate transactions from listing agreement through to the final sale, and explores current trends and issues that impact residential real estate.
COURSE 4: The Commercial Real Estate Transaction
Fee: $425
Study Method: 40 Hours of Classroom Instruction
Course Topics: This course provides a detailed overview of a commercial real estate transaction, from listing agreement to the final sale, and explores current trends and issues that impact commercial real estate.
COURSE 5: Real Property Law
Fee: $505

Examinations
You must select an examination date and location when you enroll in a course. Examinations are held in examination centres across Ontario.
Requirements for Registration
Real estate is a regulated profession. To practice, you must obtain registration with RECO, and renew your registration every two years.

To trade in real estate, you must:
- Be a resident of Canada
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Application for salesperson registration must be made within one year of successfully completing the last course in the pre-registration segment (Phase 3RES or Phase 3COM).
- Complete the required RECO forms
- Submit the appropriate fees
- Have a good past record of financial responsibility and conduct
- Have received a salesperson registration certificate
- Be employed by a registered brokerage
